DIY Marble Fabric Dyeing

fabric dyeing

How do you see playful experimentation with materials and colors? :)

I mainly write about hand embroidery, but I'm actually a natural experimenter and like to try new things.

You see, last month I got a little wild in my first patterned art magazine , which took my heart back to all the shapes I didn't normally do ...a truly amazing creative opportunity!

Speaking of this notebook, one of the pages is illustrated the way I show it today.

Existence of geometric design! At that time, because I was using watercolors, the colors were a bit softer. They're actually a bit brighter than the picture, but even more boring.

Juice!

Here I used acrylic fabric and batik paint.

To understand the difference between watercolor and acrylic, read this article on fabric dyeing .

The method is very simple and very fun! The result will always be unexpected.

But in the process, you get your hands very dirty. So if you are looking for good contact with people and use gloves. If you don't mind (I mean most of us are isolated right now) you can have fun with your hands

1. Prepare materials and workspace

In my practice, I have used cotton and linen fabrics. Some were too small to use for sewing, while others had spots that I wanted to paint on. The others are just dressed for fun.

(You can use a fabric larger than your color, the process does not change)

Cover the work area with newspaper or plastic wrap. It will have a lot of color and some of it may fall on the table surface, so it's best to avoid it.

2. Peel a squash, grate it and squeeze the juice

Take the pieces, squeeze them (I used a syringe) and put a pimple on each. There are no special commands or science, just add them randomly like garbage.

Make sure your tissues are damp.

The moisture content determines the "sharpness" of the marble effect. If the fabric is a little damp, the result will be more severe. If your material is as wet as you take it out of the tank (usually if you press it all the tea will flow out) then the color will be soft.

You can decide which direction to go!

Personally, my cloth was a bit damp and I had to spray more water in the process as cotton and linen dried quickly.

If you decide to draw a big chunk, make sure they're all the same age! In this case, I'm actually using a pan of water.

3. Apply color

Now take a piece and apply the paint to several random places. You can choose watercolor, acrylic and batik colors.

4. Press the button

After applying the paint, place the brush on the floor and press the button several times.

The color that occurs here is more diffused than where you applied it, but it doesn't reach all of the sharp corners, so some spots will likely remain in their original color. In the meantime, you love the places you paint.

Here is the secret behind the marble view :)

If you don't like wonders and want more control over what happens, adjust the room and see. So if you feel some spots are too oily, you can pull them up and apply more pressure to make the color flow better. Or, conversely, if you feel the color is too soft for your liking and you want some parts to be oilier, comb and paint over a few spots, then press down a bit.

5. Let the fabric air dry

Let the material dry, especially overnight.

If you want a workspace, just move all the buttons to a safe place (but remember to cover the blanket with newspaper or cling film and keep the keys a safe distance from each other. The color is still fresh).

You can also straighten it and let the fabric dry at this point. It only takes up a little more space.

6. Wash the fabric and iron

Once the piece is completely dry, soak it in warm water, a drop of soap and, if desired, a drop of vinegar. (This vinegar is said to help protect the paint color.

If some colors are missing, wash each piece separately. But on a regular basis, if you use good color, this shouldn't happen.

Sheets softened after washing!

7. Admire your results

My favorite part!

This is the best in my opinion :)

It's very magical. First I painted it red, then I took it out, then I painted it blue and took it out. As a result, the color blended together in a very fun way and now reminds me of the galaxy sky!

It was not what I expected. The paint is not well stretched, I think the fabric was half dry without my knowledge? Probably a factor as to why they are doing so poorly.

Where to use this item

If you use a large material, you can do almost anything on it. Use it as a cushion, make a pillow or a bag. This way you can paint a shirt!

As for the styles, I think the watercolor version would be more appropriate with the smeared colors. Believe me, the marbled effect is quite visible there, my photos are a bit too bright. In the shade material, in my opinion, your colorful embroidery will be more popular.

Or can you play with contrasts and paint a little white on a shiny marbled fabric?

In fact, I don't know what to do with the material yet. But I'm sure about embroidery magazine № . 2 and I want to create more apps and collages and enjoy more media. So, I added some stuff to the stock :)

What to do with such a substance? :)
