How to choose embroidery needle: 4 conditions to consider
As an embroidery designer, I always cry when I have to recommend which needle to use for my design. Because I understand that from what I have chosen, you will probably choose a different fabric to work with and some of you may wish to change the number of threads used in your needle.
I got it because I'm a decal like everyone else and the desire to add something of my own to an existing design , the desire to work the way I do is quite familiar to me. Or, in other cases, the fabric or yarn you see listed may be hard to find, so choose materials that are easily accessible. And that is also perfectly fine.
That's why I always cry when I write needle recommendations. The point is that the best choice depends on a number of conditions, including the fabric used and the thickness of the thread used.

However, I think the subject is worth discussing. And although I have already covered this topic in the article on 10 things to consider about craft needles, let's take a closer look at this topic to make it even clearer.
4 conditions to choose an embroidery needle
Leaving embroidery needle types aside for now, imagine you have a mixed bag of different needles at home or in the workshop and need to decide which ones you need for that particular project. . Or imagine that you are standing in a sewing shop in front of a display case with many different needles and your head is spinning with all the names and shapes. Which should I choose?
When choosing needles for embroidery, the following main points should be considered:

1st tip
The tip of the needle can be blunt or sharp.
Flat embroidery always requires a sharp point as we need to pierce the fabric with weaving fibers and sometimes other stitches. Brutal embroidery requires a sharp needle.
Areas of hand embroidery using blunt needles include cross stitch, figured canvas work, design work, plain work, etc., done on other fabrics, including woven ones, including clear knits and holes transparent visible. These types of embroidery generally require you to insert the needle through the fabric hole, and the round point allows the fabric material to slide easily without holes in the fabric fibers.
Although there is another use for blunt needles. Personally, I don't work with cross stitch or canvas, so why do I need blunt needles in a stack?
This is because they work best on stitches that will be knitted, such as slip stitches or twisted stitches. The round tip won't pull on the fibers of your sewing thread, so you don't have to worry about messing up your work.

In general, the size of the needle should match the size of the thread.
Of course, this is not to be taken literally. You don't have to measure needle and thread to find the perfect match. You can tell this by comparing the needles to the thread you will be using.
Which yarn in the picture above is best for medium yarn?
One to the right, one to the right. Its shank is long, thick and stiff, better guiding the thread through the seam and making threading more convenient and reliable.
3. eyes
And again we have to look at our thread. The eyelets should be large enough to comfortably hold the thread.
Here is the needle on the right side of the image above that has 6 threads of yarn in the eye. The thread still has freedom of movement and does not feel overloaded or restricted.
And here is the left needle. As you can see, dental floss is the best option for this. Add more and the yarn will already feel a bit stuck in there.
There must be space and air in the eye of the needle, why not get stuck?
When the pet walks on the fabric, the embroidery thread will already experience some friction, which will partially damage it. You may have noticed that as soon as you sew the exact part of the thread that was in the buttonhole, it often looks worn. In this case, it is better to end the thread here because it has lost its appeal.
The rule of thumb here is to choose a needle where the thread sits comfortably in your ear.
4. Width
Most of the time, when we talk about the width of the needle, we mean that when knitting it must be combined with the fabric and its density.
There are different types of fabrics that can be used for hand embroidery and some are very dense and some are not. Some are quite light despite their tight weave, while others are as stiff as jeans.
Therefore, the combination must also be adapted to the fabric that you are going to use.
In the image above, I am using 2 layers of cotton muslin (for the bottom and padding). Cotton muslin is generally a very light type of fabric with a tight weave. So, from the above examples, it is difficult to go through a thick needle. And when it does, it leaves a damaged hole in its back. You can see how the knitting around the needle turns out differently.
Such a hole, my friends, cannot be repaired. This means that the suit is too baggy for that particular fabric. That is, if you have a thick yarn and you need the right needle, the problem may be choosing the wrong fabric. Get something stiff and loose knit.
If the candy is large enough for the tissue, there is no resistance and therefore the tissue will not be damaged by penetration.
Yes, there is probably a hole (I used 2-strand floss for this example. If I floss 1, the hole is fully visible).
But after some minor damage, the tissue returns to its original shape. The point of the needle points to a hole here, but this is rarely seen.
So these are the most important conditions to consider when choosing embroidery needles for your project.
Finally, the order of preference would look like this:

- Think about how the candy will match the fabric in size and width.
- Think about how the needle will insert the thread into his eye.
