How to use variegated thread in hand embroidery

Variegated thread tips

I recently asked you what topics you would like to work on in your new blog posts on Instagram, and one of the answers is about color threads. So here are some tips to help you!

What kind of strange thread is it?

One type of thread is usually more than one color: sometimes it is a gallery of contrasting shades, sometimes they can be very close to each other and have a slight difference, sometimes they can go from light shades to lighter.

The colors of the threads in the image below vary from honey to red and purple, but since they are all close to "warm", the transition is very subtle.

So let’s look at four ways you can use them. If you have any other suggestions, be sure to include them in the comments below!

How to use colored threads?

1. Solid model

I think this is the easiest option.

If you have a continuous single motif, one way to increase your interest is to work with a short thread. But be careful not to overdo it! Make a solid color material, especially with contrast, this will help the threads come out.

I also recommend using it for simple reasons. But you can say it is just my taste, so do not take it as a rule.

2. Different colors of small items

Did you know that some templates have a lot of small items? Think of a bouquet of flowers that focuses on large flowers but is scattered around to create an atmosphere.

If you want these little pieces to be unique, each one has its own characteristics, the best way to do this is to use multi-colored threads! It allows you to work all the ingredients in many different colors without interrupting and restarting the thread.

The three flowers in the photo above are similar, but unique - each with its own gallery, but they are the same. This is because they are bound by multi-colored threads :)

3. Letters

Another great way to use multi-colored threads is to make letters!

Color transitions are always interesting to watch. If you look at many Instagram accounts with captions, you will find many inspirations to make the article more beautiful.

Anything that can be done on paper can be made from fabric: can you add color with dark thread, or highlight or express, maybe gold thread? You can also combine "colored" letters with simple text to highlight more colorful text.

So many options!

4. Imitation of light shadows

Some multi-colored threads only need embroidery!

Especially from solid color to light (although there are exceptions!). Instead of changing to a new color each time, why not try a different set of threads with different colored threads?

This page has at least 3 shades of blue and will never change the theme!

And if you want to add more contrast and shade to the item, add some black or bright colors as I did with this sheet.

So, here are four easy ways to learn to make money on different topics. Let me add a few examples of my work!

The petals of this flower are partially colored thread, partly - thread matching the color palette.

The front leaves of this flower are also tied with multi-colored threads! See how well the welding method works with the same type of wire. I paired it with a darker color at the bottom and a lighter thread at the top :)
