Top 10 beginner mistakes in hand embroidery
I mentioned little by little in my article about the mistakes you can make by hand as a beginner, and I warn you about a few things you can do about a beginner. But they were all spread through the blog, so I think now's the time to put them all together and put them all together.
So let's go!
List of common mistakes as a beginner's handwriting:
1. Do not remove the fabric from the loop after the sewing session
Suppose you have an embroidery project. Or you can work on a material and try the first one. And after a little sewing, hold the fabric tightly and make the hole between the rings.
Do not do it :)
The fabric is softer than it looks, and hops are heavier than you think. So if the fabric stays on for a long time - a few days, a week or more - it is very difficult to remove the wrinkles from the loop later.
The texture "remembers" this space in the circle and remains in this state. The wrinkles can not be completely relieved . And some strict washing rituals will destroy any stitches they make on the fabric.
So the advice: After each sewing time, remove the fabric from the loop. Calm down, she's under a lot of pressure and you open your heart :)
* By the way, consider your own loop hook . It has some serious benefits , and thank you for your texture! *
Special cases only if you want to place it in a circle after you have completed your embroidery or just use the fabric as a "concept" type.
2. Use the wrong needle
I know that needle placement can be very complicated and confusing at first (I mean it still works for me), but choosing the right placement will make your life as an embroidery artist much easier.
I have an article on my blog that talks briefly about grading needles and outlines the main features of each type, so check it out.
Here's a little life from my personal experience. When I started, and I was still confused about needles, I picked up a lot of books on projects that fit my taste and style, and I saw the recommended types of needles. Then I tried to find the source.
In fact, there are different levels of needles in my country, so it is difficult to find this exact type even online and it is not possible in my local stores. But I learned to keep up with the flow by choosing the most important features and finding some of my favorite needles.
For my embroidery, technical bar is important (especially long) and the edges are sharp. So I'm focused. And for another feature, I have the needle eye, both small and large eyes.
So stay here. Read from 4 Things to consider when choosing a needle , and although you are still confused about the placement and type, you can go to the nearest store, check the characteristics of the needles there (lap, eye, tip) and choose what to choose. - What.
3. Sewing in the dark
Please do not do this, it will hurt your eyes!
The best option is to sew near the window during the day. But of course we work and work every day, so if your usual sewing time is at night, we hope we have a good light for it.
For example, not a ceiling or wall lamp, but a table lamp or good natural light near your workplace.
I can not adequately mention the need for caution when I expand. I was very frustrated with my own eyes at the time, and thought it was not necessary to take a few stitches quickly, even in the dark. And what happened next was so frightening that I stopped covering for a while.
It is useless to hurt your eyes for a few stitches. Your eyes are very valuable, so be careful.
4. Poor posture
Top five for all people with behavioral problems. We're in the same boat here!
Since high school, my back has always been very low on the table. My family calls it "writing to the nose", is that another common saying?
Well, I have the experience of sewing and I like to sit here for a long time while sewing.
So, long story short ... I always try this and that to improve my situation, but in vain. So the habit remains.
A few months ago, when I was working in the needle room for beginners , this practice caused some health problems.
I recorded the work process and the final project and I was in a very bad place (the camera has a better angle because it is worse than usual) and I stayed there for 5-6 hours. daily. I think about two weeks.
Soon I started struggling to breathe - I could not breathe, was very shallow and always yawned. Do I think my body needs oxygen? I do not know exactly, I know I do not get enough air and I feel like my ribs are being pressed. My heart swelled too. You usually do not feel your heart beating during the day, do you? But I felt the fists and I knew about him and I did not lie because he was beaten faster than usual: I was so scared: D
Anyway, after that I started yoga and running and my breathing and heart rate helped.
You might think this is an example of a very bad situation for a long time. But I think this is a short example of what can happen in the long run.
So let's be careful!
Personally, yoga has become my necessity. You can do some beginner meetings and meetings on Youtube. There are back and shoulder videos. After a few sessions I feel my back muscles and I do not have to remember that it is sitting right. Instead, it is uncomfortable to sit in a bad place and bend completely forward.
You can get other back exercises or wear a special jacket. But in this case, consider starting work now!
5. Tie your fabric up or down
Well, back to the topic of embroidery!
The most important thing when rolling the fabric is the fit. So you may need to adjust the bolts to fit. It's not hard, I'm sure you'll find a way to do it.
And when they are sewn on, the tension in the fabric is usually a little relaxed. In this case, you can adjust the tension by gently pulling the fabric vertically or horizontally (not diagrammatically).
However, stretching your fabric is just as dangerous as stretching. Both can cause wrinkles.
When the fabric starts to fold, you can usually see if the fabric is stretching. This means you pull the fabric more than anywhere else.
Actually, I got into trouble!
I do not think I can do the same thing if I have been kidnapped for some time and have to adjust the dust tension. So I pull the fabric a little tight, or I remove the frame completely and put it back on.
6. The thread is too long
I remember this mistake from my own experience as a beginner. I thought it would be easier to cut a long piece of rope and close it to the end.
That's when I made a mistake: D
When you first sew, your thread will end. The tip you used when you started sewing looks a little warmer, shiny and "healthy" after a few stitches. When you do, you will definitely notice.
And the wire in this case does not increase in length. They are only half full and do not look pretty on the material.
Second, the more the wire is used, the greater the chance that it will break. And another headache ( here are some tips onhow to avoid congestion ).
So cut the cord short. Over time, you will know what length you have chosen, but it will certainly not be below the circle. Anyway , it does not take much time to start and kill threads :)
7. Dirty hands
Really, do you eat with tea or coffee on the cake on your table? ;)
Because I do: D but be careful!
It is very difficult to resist being sued while doing homework or spiritual work. That’s why most of us want our favorite drink and cover.
But let's be smart, are not we?
We do not want materials or wires to be contaminated with our dirty hands. So cakes, sweets and fruit are allowed to be smeared on the table, cloths and wires are hidden in the drawer / kept at a safe distance. After we snack and rest, we wash our hands (+ Optional: use hand cream), then continue the extraction.
By the way, do not forget to put a bottle of water on your table and keep yourself moist.
8. The wire is tensioned and the long wire is tensioned backwards
We do not always see your embroidery, so sometimes some "wonderful" things happen there.
For example, wire magnification. Then stick the thread out, but you do not see it and continue sewing with joy. And if you work hard, you may be wondering why your wrists suddenly make your fingers look shorter. The reason for this is a piece of sticker on the back.
Or if the wire is too long at the back. This is not good, because if you insert your wire too tightly, it can cause frustration. And if you continue with the double stretch, the last layer will weaken and fall off.
So our defense:
Feel free to pull the rope and other "surprises" on the back and search the back with your free fingers. If so, here are some suggestions on how to look or get an appointment for antique items .
When moving from one point to another, place the wire under the center of a small piece of rope to avoid long stitches. I have an old post that does not really cover it , but it shows you how to do it. I did it there with small stitches, but you can make your needle under the body of long and short stitches, for example. Simply slide the needle under a few strings until you reach the desired target. You can make some small stitches along the way to the next point . Or just finish your thread and start somewhere else :)
9. Invest a lot
I warned against this in my suggestions to beginners , but I still think it's important to include it here.
Initially, when you are not sure what kind of embroidery design you like best, what kind of fabric you really like and what kind of yarn you are comfortable with, you still have a clear idea of what you want. It is better to be modest in your spending to do so.
After a few weeks, you will be able to buy a yarn, crepe needles, tweezers, books and accessories to find out if you are looking for a black sewing machine, because you will be able to see Crewel's beautiful pieces on Pinterest and you will be amazed and be inspired. If you did it the day before, you will be happier.
You know what I mean?
10. Focus on earning money / followers
For those of you who want to gain followers or make a lot of money ... I personally think it would be better to prove yourself here. This is definitely not a priority, especially in the first place.
My friends, if this is your primary goal, then I'm afraid your embroidery will be dead and without character or sparkle.
Rather focus on what you enjoy, what makes you feel good and how you can convey that joy and happiness to those around you :)
Popularity and money may or may not come. But you at least do what you enjoy!
Make no mistake, it is important to have long-term goals and ideas. It is good to make embroidery your main business. But do not let that distract you until you lose your individuality and your emotions. Focus on your wisdom, be honest, work hard and the rest will come, if God wills!

11. Think again
This is common to all incoming and outgoing artists, regardless of their artistic background. But let's all think humbly and think that we'll never reach the same level as this great artist.
But have you ever thought that all the "cool" things you see about an artist in a book or online are actually the result of thousands of hours of training?
We all start somewhere. No one was born with a needle and thread in his hand and he started working in his arms. It's all work and exercise. You do not see the beginning of the journey. You just see the result.
I expanded on this topic in my fear of talent . So if you are not good and yes, you can get the same skills and if you want more reminders, go there :)
Wow this article is about to end. Congratulations on reaching this milestone!
Keep up the good work, do not be afraid to make mistakes and enjoy the ride!
