Raised stem stitch tutorial
It's an alternative to our good oldtribe !
Look at the image below.
One of these molds is machined with a regular die end and the other with a raised die end. I wonder if you can figure out what we're going to study today? :)
Do not cheat!
Well, it's on the left.
I think you can draw conclusions about how these two techniques differ by comparing them. Later we will dwell on this topic and think about their advantages and disadvantages, but first we will see how they work.
Tutorial with rods
1. First, we need the basics. Consider moving the raised end of the rod in the desired direction and create a base point perpendicular to it. So in this case, I'm moving vertically, so my base is horizontal. Does that make sense?
By the way, the raised end of the rod usually has a narrow shape, but the curvature is good. Think of tree trunks and rows of letters ( Die van Niekerk! ).
Now bring the needle to the shape of the working yarn and pull the needle under the nearest base stitch in the direction you just started.
I didn't mean "up" because that stitch would work the other way around. So you have to remember that the tip of the needle will move in the direction you started. In this case, it will rise.
3. Then repeat the same steps with the next base point.
4. And continue until you reach the other side of the form.
As you can see my threads are straying a bit more to the side, but this will be corrected with each new line, as they will of course grow outward to sort out :)
5. When you get to the edge of the shape, you can go back to the other side and start a new line on the other side. As for me, I prefer to go the other way now, mirroring my movements.
So in this case, I start at the bottom of the second row and insert the needle under each base stitch, looking at that stitch.
IMPORTANT: If you decide to do the same and change direction, be sure to hold the piece in the opposite direction. Reflect your actions. If you look closely at the picture for the first row, you'll notice that I always leave the working end of the yarn on the left side of the needle. Now that I'm done, I hold the working end of the cable to the right.
If you don't mirror it, the line will look a little different!
If you mix everything up, come back to the same side of the form for each subsequent row :)
6. So here are four rows of the same color. You see the ex did more than a little.
7. And now it's really done.
My shape is not perfect, it's a bit weird, so some highlights still stand out. Well, if you're using a high tone for a curved line or an elongated/expanding curve, know that you can always add a few more lines and make them shorter.
ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES, TIPS
When we think about the benefits of tone enhancement, the most important thing in my opinion is its organization and structure. You see, even if my morphology is not very similar, and even if my basics are done only by eye, the end result is still very neat!
On the other hand, regular bets offer better hedging (in my opinion) and a way to apply more volatility.
Finally, raised shafts run much faster and don't take a lot of wires. While regular rods are slower and sharper.
My personal opinion is that this is a great technique for using the high points of the torso, but it probably doesn't happen very often. Still, it's worth learning, so be prepared when the time comes! :)
